Learning and Development Management Training

A major U.S. hospital group ran a seminar for its Learning & Development organization on cutting-edge educational methods.

Challenges

The challenge was to demonstrate effective learning through gamification without being interruptive to the event. Although the event was focused on the effectiveness of gamification, it was difficult for attendees to wrap their minds around how to make practical use of this knowledge. Running Ringorang during the event provided a tailor-made example. However, there were two fundamental challenges to overcome:

  1. How to deliver Ringorang Qs simultaneously to all attendee devices at tactical moments DURING the event
  2. How to keep them engaged with this information through the week AFTER the event

Requirements

Leading experts in gamification spoke at the seminar. In order to provide a practical example, Ringorang questions were to be delivered to attendees’ mobile and PC devices DURING the event and for a week afterward, to demonstrate the following:

  1. Reinforcement of key messages of the speakers and workshops
  2. Demonstration of an impactful mode for gamifying learning
  3. Measurably overcoming the Forgetting Curve that sets in after every learning event

Solutions

At the seminar, Ringorang would deliver a question at the top of each hour (when speakers completed their talks), to recap what the attendees just heard. Apps were made available for download to all attendee devices — iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows. Ringorang delivered 6 total Qs during the seminar, and 11 in the following week. Speakers at the event, and the Director of L&D at the healthcare organization, assisted in developing the curriculum to be most relevant to attendees.

Benefits

The speakers and sponsors were resoundingly happy to help develop content for the client-branded Ringorang competition that engaged attendees through the seminar day, as it provided a unique format for focusing residual attention on their subject. Attendees engaged through the day and into the following week, yielding the following results:

  • Loss of recall on the event information was reduced by 51%
  • Achieved 108% information retention score (100% retention + 8% increase)
  • L&D Director requested to use Ringorang® for workforce training
  • Survey confirmed that the format was not considered interruptive — and it was “addictive fun”
